  1. Even if the NDAA exists, that doesn’t mean our civil rights and liberties no longer exist, just that America refuses to acknowledge them.
  2. The ticket quota is a myth.
  3. Full story will be posted tomorrow.

Fun phrases I always practiced but never thought I’d ever have to use:

“No, officer, I will not consent to a search of my vehicle or my person. I will comply, but you should not misinterpret my compliance as consent.”

“I would be more comfortable if a male officer were searching my body.”

“Please stop. This is a violation of my civil liberties.”

I was searched by the police without my consent today. It was interesting.

EDIT: I was searched on suspicion of marijuana (or other illegal substance or item) possession. The whole time, the officer was very vague about it, and kept pressuring me to “just confess and I’ll help you get some leniency in court.”

15 Ways To Detect Nonsense -

"Rape victim" admits fabrication in order to get $1.5 million. -

conservativebrew:

From article (with my emphasis):

The kidnap-rape conviction of a once-promising prep football star was dismissed Thursday following a recantation by his accuser.

Brian Banks collapsed in sobs on the counsel table during a court hearing where a prosecutor quickly conceded the decade-old case and moved for the dismissal.

In the summer of 2002, Banks’ future looked bright: He was a 17-year-old high school football star being heavily recruited by a number of colleges. But in a single day that changed with the accusations of kidnapping and rape by a female student.

He maintained there was no rape and their sexual contact was consensual, but his lawyer urged him to plead no contest rather than risk a sentence of 41 years to life in prison if convicted. He followed the advice and went to prison for six years, shattering his dreams of gridiron glory…

…In a strange turn of events, the woman who accused him a decade ago friended him on Facebook when he got out of prison. Wanetta Gibson explained she wanted to “let bygones be bygones.”

According to documents in the case, she met with Banks and said she had lied; there had been was no kidnap and no rape and she offered to help him clear his record.

But she subsequently refused to repeat the story to prosecutors because she feared she would have to return a $1.5 million payment from a civil suit brought by her mother against Long Beach schools.

She was quoted as telling Banks: “I will go through with helping you but it’s like at the same time all that money they gave us, I mean gave me, I don’t want to have to pay it back.”

Justin Brooks, a lawyer who heads the innocence project, said that Banks has remained on probation, under electronic monitoring, has had to register as a sex offender and has had trouble getting a job.

Disgusting.

“Christians must understand the clash of worldviews that is changing the face of American society. And we must stand ready to respond as people grow disillusioned with false beliefs and values and as they being to seek real answer. We must know not only what our worldview is and why we believe it but also how to defend it. We must also have some understanding of the opposing worldviews and why people believe them. Only then can we present the gospel in language that can be understood. Only then can we defend truth in a way that is winsome and persuasive.” — Chuck Colson and Nancy Pearcey, How Now Shall We Live? (via apologeticsnstuff)

The #1 lie women are told about abortion is…

…that children are a curse—some even say a “parasite”—that threatens to harm the future well being of the expectant parents. The truth is that children are a blessing and always represent the long-term hope of the future. As Carl Sandburg said, “A baby is God’s opinion that life should go on.” We cannot destroy them without diminishing the worth of women.

Yes. But then there is also the excuse that the child will not have a “happy life,” which I find equally repellent. Poverty, disfiguration, and disease are not reasons to abort a child. We are in a very bad place as a society if we consider a life with struggles as a life not worth living. The bottom line is that God is the only one who knows what will happen in the future and we do not have the authority to cut someone’s life short.

Actually the bottom line is that if I don’t want children, I won’t have children. It’s really that simple, because it’s not yours or your god’s decision what I do with my life. But, that doesn’t mean I will just “keep my legs closed” or comply with similar sex-shaming bullshit.

So, what have you done for all those children living in poverty, situations where they are unwanted, or to help fix the fostering and adoption services? Or, are you the type of person who follows the republican party line and think that people are just poor because they want to be, so there’s no reason to provide them any care or assistance whatsoever?

Just because you believe something doesn’t give you the freedom to force me to live by your standards. Trust me, you’d be unhappy if the shoe was on the other foot and it was MY religious beliefs that were calling all the shots.

And, what about the women who are pregnant? Nobody talks about them as people. They’re either misguided sluts at best, or murderous whores at worst. Why don’t we talk about women as if they’re capable of making their own choices?

So you’re content to enjoy all the privileges and none of the responsibilities? Finish the sentence: It’s okay to kill a child when… It’s unwanted? It’s going to live a poor life? When Republicans are rich snobs? When the people who are defending that child haven’t personally taken responsibility for every orphan/foster child in the world?

The point of the original quote is that society has fed into the lie that children—human children, of the same species as the mother, and necessary for the propagation of the human race—are some sort of parasite. Regardless of creed, this is an idiotic position, and it blatantly ignores the crux of the issue: That human lives are at stake in the abortion debate, which makes abortion murder.
