Anonymous asked: Why do people say that God doesn't give you anything you can't handle? i'm a Christian but I've been dealing with verbal abuse from my parents for almost 10 years and I can tell you, i've wished I was dead many times. ive watched their marriage crumble and my mom tell me everyday that my dad cheats on her and one day she'll show me the evidence. sometimes I wonder if I wasnt so afraid I would have tried to kill myself. so why do people say those things when theyre not true?
That’s one of those Christian sayings that isn’t actually in the Bible. What the Scriptures do say is that when God allows us to be tempted, He will always provide a way out. But Christ clearly taught that you would be reviled for your faith in Him, that you had no promise of health, wealth, or happiness on this side of heaven, and that your life, if you followed Him, might very well be a living hell.
I’m not going to promise you a good life. What I will say is that Christ is life, and life abundantly. Do not look for joy in your parents, because they will fail you, or in your friends, because they will fail you; do not place your hope in anything other than Christ and Him Crucified and resurrected. Then will your joy be full.
In Christ,
Johnny.
