God could have killed me tonight and He would still be good.

Thank you for the overwhelming response of support and encouragement. I wanted to update you guys and share a few things I’ve been thinking about as a result of tonight.

I am fine, with a few new bumps and bruises. I can’t yet tell if my eye will be blackened in the morning, but my glasses were broken—at least I think they were. I lost them in the immediate aftermath of the accident. The car is totaled, according to the tow company.

I’m not going to post specific details about what happened, mostly because I don’t have them. I remember slamming down into the ditch by the side of the road, and into trees. The airbags were all deployed, and the drivers side door wasn’t working. Then I was out and on the phone with first my father and then Highway Patrol. I was in shock—both medical shock and mental shock—I’m sure, but it passed quickly. I walked away from the accident and am, for all intents and purposes, unscathed.

I know that when Christians suffer (and what happened to me tonight was inconvenient, but it was not truly suffering), a lot of the time they wonder why it is so. Do you want to know why God allowed this to happen to me tonight? Because He is good.

He is good and He is working in all of this for His good will and purpose, and for the good of those who love Him and are called according to that purpose, and it was His good will and purpose to smash me into a tree at 60 miles per hour for the Glory of His Name. And here’s the thing:

He would have been just as good if He had taken my life tonight.

That is how glorious my God is. Whether you live or die, whether you’re rich or poor, or healthy or sick or sinful or holy, ultimately you will give glory to the name of God. You can’t help it. It’s just who He is: He is Glorious. And whether you bow now or you bow later, you will bow before this Glorious King and you will show the world how glorious He truly is.

Again, thank you for your prayers and your support. I am blessed beyond belief to have such a loving Christian family, and I am proud to call you all my brothers and sisters.

In Christ,

Johnny.

The Lord kills and brings to life;
    he brings down to Sheol and raises up.
The Lord makes poor and makes rich;
     he brings low and he exalts.
