askamormon:

Everybody knows these “I am a Mormon” ads. But they are real. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has brought peace to so many lives, including mine.

Recent news stories, political campaigns, and even Broadway shows, have made The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints an item of interest. It has been depicted as a cult. It has been depicted as a group of people who mindlessly follow power hungry leaders. But it has also been depicted as a group of happy, loving people. What is the truth?

The truth is that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is just that, a church. It is not a cult. It brings people closer to Christ. Mormons are Christians. It was people not of our faith that branded us with the title of “Mormons”. That has never been the name of our church. We are Christians.

We are not Amish, Polygamists, or any other misconception. We are human beings who have found peace through our Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ. We have felt the love of God in our lives.

I encourage you that you learn more about our faith on this site. And watch some of the videos too. I suggest Brandon Flowers, Kevin Fedderson, Paris Thomas, Kelly Lineback, Erick Lund, and Sarah Osmotherly. Actually, I suggest them all.

Anyone that says that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is not a church of Jesus Christ is mistaken. They do not know the teachings. Everything that this church teaches leads a person closer to Christ.

It is incredibly ironic that you would choose Matthew 7:16 as your title here, because it’s talking about false teachers—false teachers like Joseph Smith. (Context is everything, people. Remember that. Go read Matthew 7:13-23)

Stop lying to people: Mormonism is not Christianity. Still don’t believe me? How about now? Mormonism is a heresy that will not save you. Mormon Jesus is not the Jesus of History, nor the Christ preached by the Apostles. Mormonism is a lie, started by Joseph Smith, and perpetuated by well-meaning but ultimately deceived people.

My only question is why do Mormon’s want so badly to be recognized as a mainstream Christian denomination? Especially in light of what Joseph Smith said:

My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right — and which I should join. I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong, and the personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in His sight: that those professors were all corrupt …

Regarding his first vision, inquiring which church to join.

History of the Church, Vol. 1, p. 5-6

Mormonism is supposedly the restoration of the Gospel—of the many plain and precious things that mysteriously vanished from the Bible. If you believe that, why would you want to let people become confused, and think that Christians may be saved? Joseph Smith says that everybody who is not a Mormon will be damned (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, page 119.) Isn’t it a little dangerous, then, to act like Christianity is a safe harbor? Or are you abandoning that doctrine?

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.

Gal. 1:8

Accursed they are then: Both the “prophet” Smith and the “angel” Moroni are damned for their lies. The souls they lead astray are blood on their hands, but I will not have them on mine as well. I beg of you, and every other Mormon: Repent and preach the True and only Gospel of Jesus Christ, or you will join them in their judgment. Search out the truth of Scripture for yourself. Do not let yourself remain deceived. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. You will not come to the Father through Mormonism: Only through Christ.

In Christ,

Jonathan.

The five solas:

Sola scriptura — By Scripture alone.
Sola fide — By Faith alone.
Sola gratia — By Grace alone.
Solo Christo — Through Christ alone.
Soli Deo gloria — Glory to God alone.

This is the faith.

To those who believe what they prefer rather than the written word of God.

hellomynameisliv:

2 Timothy 4:2-5

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

"Faith, restricted merely to religious exercise, is not Christian faith. It must show itself in everything. A merely religious faith may be the choice of men whose heads are softer than their hearts, more fit for cloisters than markets; but the manly faith which God would have us cultivate, is a grand practical principle adapted for every day in the week, helping us to rule our household in the fear of God, and to enter upon life’s rough conflicts in the warehouse, the farm, or the exchange."
