Congratulations. You've found the hidden box!
I used to have an easter egg hunt that started here, but I closed that down. If you want me to reopen it, let me know here.

This is why I can’t take Bill Johnson seriously. Now he’s just making up his own theology. This is nonsense.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

Acts 1:8, ESV.

Too often, people are desperate for some religious experience in which the Spirit of God shakes them up. Others want that power that Christ promised, but do not understand the proper application of that power. Do not misunderstand me: I am not discounting the personal reaction that some have to the presence of God, or saying that it is somehow invalid. I’m simply exhorting the Body that the experience or power, in and of itself, is not why the Holy Spirit was sent to us.

I am sick of feel-good theology.

I want to watch Rob Bell and Francis Chan sit down and talk about the afterlife.

salakh:

I would pay to see that.

It would be better if William Lane Craig sat down with Rob Bell and set him straight.

A HUGE pet-peeve of mine:

desertmanian:

Ok… SOMETHING THAT IS VERY ANNOYING…I occasionally see quotations on Christian tumblr blogs that are anti-theology. They say something about a Christian topic… then oversimplify the topic and disparage theologians for viewing the topic intellectually and making fine distinctions as if theologians are wrong for I dunno… using their brains.

Doesn’t it occur to any of you that these men are glorifying God through the use of their intellect. Just because something is difficult to understand and requires time and energy to learn doesn’t mean it is unimportant. Whenever you start talking about God… you’re being theological…. but if you oversimplify something or contradict yourself or the word of God…. you’re still doing theology… you’re just doing a really bad job of it.

SO WHY ARE SO MANY CHRISTIANS ANTI-INTELLECTUAL??!!!

God didn’t just command you to love him with your heart and strength. He commanded you to love him with your MIND as well. Check out this passage from Mark 12:28-30:

The Great Commandment

28And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

Thank you, sir.  Please know that there are more people with that same righteous anger, who are quite ready to actually expend a little effort to learn more about who God is, regardless of what our sometimes anti-theological brethren say and do.
