Eaten alive.

Maybe part of the reason Christianity’s in the trouble it’s in is because it’s gotten too warm and fuzzy. We’ve focused on the cleansing so much that we’ve lost the appreciation for the grace that brought us there.
Maybe, rather than saying, ‘I’ve wandered a bit’ we should start telling the truth ‘I’ve gone whoring again’….because maybe then, we’ll start to actually see the severity of our wanderings, however civil they may seem to us.
Going whoring again. that sounds a bit less clean, less civilized, and just might put our sin in perspective.
Maybe I once was lost, and now I’m found isn’t a clear enough picture.
Ezekiel 16 speaks powerfully to this, speaking of the Lord’s redemption and the beauty given to us, but there’s also a twist in this love story
“ 15 “‘But you trusted in your beauty and used your fame to become a prostitute. You lavished your favors on anyone who passed by and your beauty became his. 16 You took some of your garments to make gaudy high places, where you carried on your prostitution. You went to him, and he possessed your beauty.[b] 17 You also took the fine jewelry I gave you, the jewelry made of my gold and silver, and you made for yourself male idols and engaged in prostitution with them. 18 And you took your embroidered clothes to put on them, and you offered my oil and incense before them. 19Also the food I provided for you—the flour, olive oil and honey I gave you to eat—you offered as fragrant incense before them. That is what happened, declares the Sovereign LORD.”
ouch.
Thanks be to God for His redeeming power, but woe be to us when we forget it, cheapening His grace by trying to lessen the sounds of our sin.
I once was lost and dirty, God cleaned me up and brought me home, and despite His incredible love, I occasionally go off whoring, taking advantage of the love that found me in the first place. Then, I go to his house, put on something nice looking, and act like I’ve done nothing wrong. Eventually, I am convicted enough to admit my stupidity, and yet He loves me through it all. And the next time I run, He remains faithful to seek me. Why, I don’t know. But the moment we lost sight of how awful we’ve been, the moment God’s grace is cheapened.
Of all the sins we’re prone to committing, let’s not allow the cheapening of God’s grace to be added to the stack.
Boom. Stomach punch.
“I’ve gone whoring again.”

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and fall short of the Glory of God.
That’s why you need Christ.
